Creating landing pages that consistently produce a high conversion rate is a daunting task to say the least. You would think that in our modern world there would be a way to automate the webmaster’s task to make it easier and less time consuming. The way is called landing page software.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> Years ago a webmaster spent hours upon hours of time developing a website in a text editor. They would then have to view it in a web browser to determine if the page was correct. Today there a number of software packages on the market that are referred to as “what you see is what you get” or WYSIWYG. In this type of product you simply create the visual and text elements just as you would in a word processor and the software creates the code based on your choices.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> There are also a number of products on the market that provide you with blanks in which you add your information and then the software creates your landing page with the click of a button. I for one do not use this type of landing page software. For the most part this kind of software package does not give me enough control over the look and feel of my page.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> Regardless of which type of landing page software that you use or even if you use none at all there are a few basics that you should learn about a landing page and how to optimize it.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">1.) Links and Navigation</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> Your landing or sales page is not your home page. The entire purpose of you landing page is to convert visitors into customers and not give them an avenue to escape. When a visitor comes to your landing page you should present them with only 2 choices; convert or leave. That’s it. In the real world distractions kill conversations. In the virtual world of your landing page distractions do exactly the same thing.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">2.) Logo</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> You should be thinking about branding your products and nothing does that better than putting your logo on every page.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"> It is a known fact that people like to click on graphics, so use a graphic for your order button, other than that keep graphics to a minimum. Graphics tend to slow down the load speed of your site and if you site is too slow many customers will just move on.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> Landing page software is something that can save time. There are a number of software products available but in my opinion WYSIWYG landing page software is better than the packages that just give you a bunch of blanks to insert your information. This type of software does not give the creative control that I like. Use landing page software to make your life easier but don’t give up your individuality by using a product that leaves very little options.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"> The automated testing software that I would choose must allow unlimited testing. This type of software is usually used in multivariate testing and I need to be able to test as many variables as needed.<span>  </span>To purchase a software package with limited tests is simply tossing money out the window.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">3.) Coding</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> My pages tend to get a large amount of traffic so I want an automated testing software package that can handle this. Packages that use PHP and mySQL tend to be very fast and would be the ones on the top of my list.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">4.) Ease of Use</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> If I purchase an automated testing software package it is to save time. I do not want to spend a large amount of time learning the software. A package with an easy to use and familiar windows based control panel would make the learning curve much easier to handle.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">5.) Installation</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> While I can install scripts and have done so in the past I prefer that those who are familiar with the setup and operation of the script install it for me. A good automated testing software package should offer either free or low cost installation.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"> Split testing has been around for a very long time and all successful internet marketers use it. This method allows you to test one page element at a time to determine what is more successful. The major drawback to split testing is the amount of time involved. Testing one element then another, and another can be very time consuming. Multivariate testing will allow you to test as many elements as you wish at the same time thus saving valuable time.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> Multivariate testing software is set up on your server and you supply the program with a number of variations for each element of your sales page that you want to test. This can be as simple or as intricate as you desire. The attributes that you might test are headlines, lead in paragraph, font, layout, color, border, and price just to name a few. You do not have to construct multiple sales pages to test each element and worry about distributing traffic to each page equally. You do not have to make changes to your advertising in order to facilitate the test, everything continues as normal.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> While multivariate testing is the easiest way to test your sales page elements it has one drawback over A/B Split testing and that is cost. <p class="MsoNormal"> On sales page B you must decide which of the attributes that you want to change. You might change the headline, opening paragraph, teaser text, graphics, page layout, your bonus offers, or even the product price. The key is to change only one attribute.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">4.) Split Test</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> Determine the length of your test. I recommend 7 days as a minimum duration. Send equal amounts of traffic to each of the pages that you are testing.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"> Compare the statistics for these pages at the end of the testing duration. The page which converted the most sales is the winner.</p>
